European resellers are already selling the network-attached storage device, known as the Iomega 100d. The device will be sold in the United States shortly in 120- and 250-Gbyte configurations, according to Iomega. The 120-Gbyte unit costs about $575 in the United Kingdom.
Offering built-in wireless 802.11g support, the 100d also offers two USB 2.0 ports for adding storage capacity. Users can use a drag-and-drop interface for file restoration as well as set the unit to automatically backup data without their further input.
The announcement comes on the heels of Iomega's introduction of a 35-Gbyte disk drive smaller than a deck of cards that is aimed at server backup and disaster recovery applications. The REV SCSI 35GB/90GB drive has a native storage capacity of 35 Gbytes and a 2.6:1 file compression software feature that provides up to 90 Gbytes in some instances, said Iomega. The new model is the latest in Iomega's REV family of drives, all of which feature read-write performance of up to 25 megabytes per second.
Iomega also recently added a 512-Mbyte model to its line of Micro Mini USB 2.0 drives USB drives, those key chain-sized flash RAM storage devices sporting USB connectors, continue to drop in price-per-megabyte. This particular model sells for about $130.
