Her agent heard about a casting call going out for a role on the long-running Australian soap opera, Neighbours. Thinking that Valance would be perfect for the part, he sent her for the audition and after several callbacks, Valance got the part of Felicity "Flick" Scully. Along with the role came a huge sacrifice; unable to handle both work and her studies, Valance decided to drop out of school while in grade 11. And although she admittedly regrets not getting her diploma, this gutsy move paved the way for a successful acting career.
Valance and her character became an instant fan favorite and remained so for the next three years. But while a steady job on a hit soap was great, she opted not to renew her contract in 2002. Holly Valance Quotation
- I don't want to be 35 years old and still popping out songs in miniskirts and la-la-la.
- I never kill insects. If I see ants or spiders in the room, I pick them up and take them outside. Karma is everything.
- There's an element that you have to put in which is about sex appeal. It doesn't carry you all the way but it is a definite part of the package.
- I love films like Chopper and American Psycho. Nitty-gritty, dark, black humour. Art-house stuff rather than a big Hollywood blockbuster. I'd like to do that one day, but I'd like to start small.
- I think laughter is the number one most important thing. Someone who can be witty and really make you giggle.
- In a way I was hoping it would cause a fuss rather than be just another boring video passing by.
- I'm a kinda smartass and I need someone to keep me on my toes. And also intelligence.
- Kylie and Jason used to shop in my dad's boutique in Melbourne, but I was too shy to go in and say hello.
- No! I'm almost Buddhist about stuff like that, I pick up ants and put them outside.
- Being a popstar is much more fun! It's what I've always wanted to do. I did enjoy acting and being on Neighbours but singing is where my heart's always been.
- You have to careful with what you say and what you do. Perhaps some things are better left unsaid.
- I've been working so much that I haven't noticed what's being said in the papers or in magazines. I haven't had time to see everyone's thoughts.
- I'm not some little puppet at the record company. If I don't want to do it I won't do it.
