It's always a nice and different experience to review a non-hyped small banner/maker film, so without going into a sermon, lets check out 'Chaahat-Ek Nasha...'
The opening track 'Yeh chehra ye aankhen, yeh zulfen ye jalwe, Itna haseen to koi dekha nahin sanam, Mohabat hai tumse mohabat ki kasam' has some good lyrics by Praveen Bharadwaj. The singing by Udit and Alka are good. It's a soft romantic melodious track, though inspired in parts by ‘Milke na honge judaa, Haan kasam kha le' from 'Pyar Jhukta Nahin‘.
Next is ‘Dil ki baatein kabhi dil mein kyon rah jaati hain, Anjane mein Zindagi tanha kyun rah jati hai'. This one is the title track sung by the Kumar Sanu clone Babul Supriyo, Sunidhi Chauhan and the talented Shreya Ghoshal. It seems to be a party-cum-situational number, which will come at an important juncture in the movie. The song is hummable.
In the next track 'Mallika' Sunidhi Chauhan says 'Jaadoo jab tera chhai, Deewane kahte hain hai'. It is very reminiscent of 'Jab chaye tera jadoo, Koi bach na paye' from Dev Anand's last hit 'Lootmaar '. The inspiration is quite obvious, though Sunidhi tries her level best to lift the 'item' song.
Moving on to 'Ishq ki baat' by Sunidhi, Shreya and Sonu sing to the lyrics' Zindagi jab se teri chaahat mein khoi hai, Tere hi intezar mein aankhen roi hai'. One cannot help but add that this one is a lift off of 'Hai jalta hai badan' from 'Razia Sultan', though Anand Raj Anand tries his level best to camouflage it. The singing is quite good.
Next up it's Babul and Shreya doing 'Chura liya hai chain tumne, Haan chura lee nend tumne'. The singing is decent and it's a nice little romantic duet.
The last track 'Dilbar o dilbar' by Tarannum is by far the best track and its got a nice rhythm and melody associated with it. The lead singer sounds confident. The lyrics are situational.
On the whole, the album is a creation of two unfortunate but talented people. Praveen Bharadwaj ('Hum Tumhare Hain Sanam') and composer and lyricist Anand Raj Anand ('Kaante') try their best to lift an ordinary album. One must credit to Anand, as he always tries to give his best irrespective of banners. The biggest culprit in his case is Govinda who has wasted some of his best work. Buy it if you are in habit of buying new albums. You may just like a few tracks!
