HRITHIK'S LAKSHYA
There was never a doubt in Hrithik Roshan's mind about his 'Lakshya'- he always wanted to be an actor. To the extent that, although he scored well in his SAT and TOEFL exams, Hrithik decided to forego his American education to stay focused on his goal. Now with 'Kaho Na Pyar Hai', 'Koi Mil Gaya' and his forthcoming film 'Lakshya', it is clear that Roshan has his sights firmly fixed on his goal. Hrithik who plays Karan Shergill in Farhan Akhtar's coming of age army setting film, talks about his future Lakshya, meaning goal Boot Camp Of 'Lakshya'..
When I started on 'Lakshya' I was quite embarrassed at how little I knew about army life. I prepared myself by reading books on the Kargil war. We also went through boot camp and obstacle course training. We had to also acclimatize to the altitude of Laddakh. At the end of every run there was an oxygen tank waiting for us so that we didn't die. Karan Shergil aka Hrithik Roshan... I did identify with the character. In fact, when I asked Farhan what the reference for Karan was, he said 'I want you to be you'. Then it wasn't hard to do, because when I was 17 or 18 years old, even I was at a crossroad. Karan makes a choice, joins the army, grows up and learns about loyalty, strength of character and courage.
A boy ends his journey as a victorious man. Team Players... At first it was intimidating working with Farhan and his team. You didn't have the freedom you have on other sets, but everyone is working with a single-minded goal. Actually it's an actor's dream, everything is taken care of. So all I had to do was to learn my lines and be on time.
On this set you couldn't break the rules. 'Dil Chahta Hai' I was offered that film, but it didn't work out. It is one of my all time favorite Hindi movies. So when I was offered 'Lakshya' I felt right. Father and Son Team Both our films have done well but now we have to set higher goals, and meet those challenges equally. The idea of doing a follow-up to 'Koi Mil Gaya' is just a thought, and whatever my dad does next, I am sure I will be a part of it. What Next.. Earlier, the roles I was being offered would excite me. But I don't know what I'will be doing next.
I have not been on a set since January. However, I went on my world tour, stage shows and meetings. I hear a story every day but now I want to take a step forward. Goalkeeping.. I'd like to take our cinema to the next level. I want to achieve so much more here. I am confident but not comfortable. Stability is something, which all actors aspire for. You have to be single minded in what you do. The fear of no safety net drives me- because I know that if I fall I will break.
